IDEM seeking public comment on environmental regulations, policies

May 30, 2025

Indiana (WPTA) – A spokesperson for the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) says they are looking for the public’s feedback on existing environmental regulations and policies in the Hoosier state.

IDEM’s release says they want input on regulations that may be “overly burdensome to individuals, businesses, communities, or industries” across Indiana.

In March, Governor Mike Braun signed an executive order aiming to cut down on additional environmental regulations in the state that are not already required by federal laws, such as the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts.

It also states that any environmental rules or regulations currently in place that go beyond federal standards without explicit direction must be reviewed.

IDEM says in accordance with the order, the department is looking for feedback from those impacted by the regulations and policies as laid out in the above executive order.

IDEM says comments regarding Executive Orders 25-06,25-49,25-50,25-17,25-40, and 25-48 are also encouraged.

Comments can be submitted via email at efficiency@idem.IN.gov, and must be sent by June 30.

Officials say the department will complete its review of the environmental rules that go beyond federal standards by Oct. 31 and will submit a written report to Gov. Braun and the Legislative Council by the end of the year.
