Infinium continues construction on the largest eFuels plant in the world

June 25, 2025

PECOS, Texas (KOSA) – On June 3, 2025, we told you about a new energy development coming to the Pecos area.

This energy plant will be the largest eFuels plant in the entire world.

“Infiniums and the world’s second eFuels refinery,” said Roger Harris, the Chief Operating Officer for Infinium.

This plant is part of Infinium’s Roadrunner One project.

eFuels are synthetic fuels produced from CO2 and renewable energy.

First, water is broken down into Hydrogen and Oxygen, using a renewable power source through a process called Electrolysis.

Using renewable energy sources allows this process to release zero carbon emissions into the atmosphere making it a clean energy source.

Then, that Hydrogen and Oxygen is paired with Carbon Dioxide.

They receive that CO2 from a nearby gas processing facility.

The pairing creates Carbon Monoxide with Hydrogen.

That product is put through reactors that convert it into liquid transportation fuels.

The plant mostly produces sustainable aviation fuel.

“With both IAG and with American Airlines. Operate a ton of flights both locally and internationally and they’ll be using this fuel as part of their roadmap onwards decarbonation,” Harris said.

The plant will also produce fuel for heavy transport vehicles.

These fuels are chemically identical to traditional fuels and are drop-in ready.

“Their fleet of existing planes represents a massive investment in terms of capital. This represents an excellent potential for airlines to expand into decarbonization and not have to change out their fleets,” said Harris.

Both the workforce and machines they use are comparable to the Oil and Gas industry which provides another pathway for these jobs.

“We’re able to leverage that craft and labor pool with essentially no re-training. So a large proportion, if not all of my team, originally comes from oil and gas and they’re able to take those skills that they learned and employed in that industry and employ them in this industry well into the future. In addition to that there’s obviously existing infrastructure in that area and we’re able to leverage off that infrastructure,” Harris said.

Infinium expects this new plant to create hundreds of construction jobs at this time and a couple dozen full time operators once the facility is open.

This plant is expected to be fully operational in 2027.
