Instagram outage: Meta-owned social media app back after briefly down in the US – The Time

While the platform appears to be back online, the outage caused significant frustration for many, with users flocking to other platforms, including Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter), to report issues and seek updates.
Instagram outage details: Issues with app and logins reported
Reports of service interruptions began around 12 pm ET on July 2 with nearly 17,000 Instagram reports registered on Downdetector. According to data from Downdetector, the primary issues for Instagram users revolved around app (67% of complaints), followed by general feed updates (26%) andlogin issues(6%).In India, however, there were around 650 reports of Instagram outage. The cause of the outage is not known and the company hasn’t communicated any reason for the disruption.
Previous Instagram outage in March
In March, Instagram’s service was affected across the US following a significant outage that impacted tens of thousands of users. The Meta-owned social media platform experienced widespread disruptions and the operations largely returned to normal after a few hours.At that time, Downdetector.com showed a peak of over 31,000 user reports of issues, which dropped to fewer than 400 within hours. However, the disruption lasted about 12 hours for some users.Downdetector’s data indicated that the majority of affected users, approximately 72%, experienced problems with the Instagram app itself, while 24% reported server connection issues.People posted several memes on Twitter, including “Me running to twitter to see if Instagram is down for anyone else” and “Per usual, Instagram goes down and my dumbass runs to Twitter to check if it’s just me,” after the disruption.
