DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -Dothan Board of Education member Aurie Jenkins created a hostile environment at city league soccer games, used profanity that made others uncomfortable, and berated officials.

Those are the findings of a Department of Leisure Services investigation into Jenkins, whom city officials removed from the youth soccer program last week. She served as head coach of one team and assistant coach of another.

According to an internal city memo obtained by News4, an investigation into Jenkins’ behavior began on September 22 after she was cited for disrespecting an official who had called penalties against one of her players.

According to the report, DLS staff observed Jenkins’ behavior the following day and learned from another parent that she had a history of yelling and creating conflict, the report stated.

On September 25, DLS officials spoke to another witness who claimed that Jenkins used profanity and created a hostile environment in how she talked to referees.

The Department of Leisure Services disqualified Jenkins for the remainder of the season that day.

On Friday, Jenkins told News4 that she had hired an attorney and would address the matter at an appropriate time.

Jenkins, who has five children, is beginning her second term on the Dothan Board of Education after running without opposition this summer for the district 6 seat.

A public education advocate, she was at odds with a previous school superintendent who brought sweeping changes, including closing one of Dothan’s two high schools and ending a popular magnet school program.

She said those actions inspired her to seek public office.

Her involvement in DLS sports programs are unrelated to her position as a school board member.
