John L. Watson Discusses Fluctuating Renewables Environment in Law360

December 29, 2025

Spencer Fane attorney John L. Watson recently authored the Law360-published article, How Gov’t Reversals Are Flummoxing Renewable Developers.

The piece is an updated version of John’s previous firm blog post and explores the continual rollback of various renewable energy regulations under the current administration. He outlines the challenges these changes create for environmental and energy stakeholders and discusses approaches to help navigate the current regulatory environment.

“Staying up to date and attempting to be responsive and resilient will be key to remaining successful despite potential hurdles. The managers of any project will be required to juggle federal policy changes, and to monitor agency and congressional actions as well as relevant litigation,” John wrote. “Many clients will aim to stay the course and implement existing business plans and practices until the smoke clears. Others may be forced to postpone or reconfigure proposed projects to make them economically feasible.”

At the firm, John is a distinguished voice in environmental and energy law who leverages his in-depth commercial trial and litigation knowledge to understand clients’ needs and goals and serves as a formidable advocate on their behalf. As both a defense trial attorney and counselor, John represents clients in a variety of complex commercial cases, including breach of contract actions, real estate and land development, special district litigation, construction disputes between contractors and subcontractors, securities litigation, public land and natural resources law, mining, oil and gas, wildlife, toxic tort, Superfund, and air, water, and waste environmental cases.
