K-9 Jet shows us what he can do to protect people and the environment
July 9, 2025
For about two weeks now, K-9 Jet and his handler, Conservation Officer Cassie Block, have been stationed out of Two Harbors.
They are part of the DNR’s Enforcement Division K-9 Unit.
On Wednesday, the duo showed us what they can do, at the McQuade Safe Harbor.
Jet can find zebra mussels in seconds flat. This is important because the invasive species can really do damage to our area lakes. And he can get to the hard to reach areas like underneath the boat.
“On a typical day, we’re at the boat launch, making sure the boats are cleaned. Outreach and education are so important,” Block said.
He can also sniff out game, like turkeys and venison. Or even shells and firearms. And lastly, he can pick up human scent as well.
“Most of the things in this world have an odor, our dogs are certainly aware of that,” Block said. “These dogs are a powerful tool in our toolbox.”
K-9 Jet’s previous handler, Adam Seifermann, recently accepted a promotion to lieutenant/supervisor.
