Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful holds clothing drive to protect the environment
May 8, 2025
(WIFR) – Just in time for spring cleaning, Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful partners with Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois to hold a clothing drive Saturday, May 10 from 9 a.m. to noon.
Drop-off Locations:
- Blains Farm and Fleet
- 4725 West State Street, Rockford
- 4567 East Rockton Road, Roscoe
- 7300 East Riverside, Loves Park
- Our Savior’s Lutheran Church
- 3300 Rural Street, Rockford
- St. John’s United Church of Christ
- 401 North Main Street, Belvidere
Each location will accept clean clothing in any condition, as well as pillows, bedding, fabric, purses, shoes, belts, soft-sided luggage and stuffed toys. The staff at Goodwill will sort and distribute the items to different stores.
Any items that cannot be sold, including stained linens, tattered T-shirts, quilting scraps and threadbare towels will also be sorted before being sent to another location to be shredded and recycled into different products.
KNIB shares that clothes and fabric that end up in landfills contribute to the production of methane, a powerful greenhouse gas responsible for global climate change.
The non-profit reports that last year’s spring drive collected 487 pounds of textiles.
If you’re unable to make it the day of the drive, KNIB has multiple recycling centers:
- 4665 Hydraulic Rd., Rockford
- Open Saturdays 9-Noon and Tuesdays 2-5.
- 8409 N. Second St., Machesney Park
- Open Saturdays 9-Noon and Wednesdays 2-5.
- 624 Eastern Ave, South Beloit
- Open on the second Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon.
