KNDS Scales GTK Boxer Production With Automotive Industry Help, Munich Line Alone Outputs
April 24, 2026
European giant KNDS opened new GTK Boxer armored vehicle production line enabling 10 vehicle monthly output at Munich facility alone. This should help achieve sixfold production volume increase by 2030.
To achieve such ambitious goal, company also secured Dräxlmaier Group support, which supplies components for premium-class civilian automobiles. Now it will manufacture large quantity of mission modules for armored vehicles.
Worth mentioning here that GTK Boxer was conceived as modular vehicle having identical 25-ton base chassis but different payload blocks that can be changed when necessary. For example, this includes troop compartment, medical, command, or drone control point.
Overall we see that for scaling armored vehicle output, even such giants as KNDS turn to civilian industry for help, specifically automobile manufacturing. Thus existing sites and expertise are engaged.

Currently similar approach is proposed by Spanish division of American GDELS, while German Volkswagen Group wants to make Iron Dome SAM system components in Germany. At the same time in U.S. generally White House wants to involve automakers in weapons production.
Regarding Dräxlmaier Group, although it has production sites in many countries both in Europe and world overall, for KNDS it will manufacture in German Landau an der Isar in Bavaria. Overall companies emphasize bet on expanding capabilities specifically in this region.

Recall that ARTEC joint venture producing GTK Boxer plans to achieve 1,000 unit annual output worldwide in 2030. Considering currently only 2,100 units delivered and ordered total.
There will also be additional orders, including from Germany, which wants to take up to 5,000 such armored vehicles or vehicles based on them. Export demand also exists, as for example Portugal itself plans to purchase using SAFE funds.
