The University of Toledo welcomed more than 20 journalists on Friday, Nov. 21, as part of a workshop hosted by the Institute for Journalism & Natural Resources.

“Troubled Waters: The Fate of the Great Lakes in a Shifting Federal Landscape” brought participants representing outlets ranging from The Blade to The New York Times to the shores of Lake Erie between Tuesday, Nov. 18, and Friday, Nov. 21. The workshop itinerary included a visit to UToledo, where researchers shared their work supporting the health of the environment with the journalists during stops at Lake Erie Center and the Wright Center for Photovoltaics Innovation and Commercialization.

The Lake Erie Center, located approximately 15 miles from Main Campus in Oregon, Ohio, is a research center where faculty and students explore local environmental conditions for insights into algal blooms, invasive species, salt pollution and more that are applicable to aquatic ecosystems worldwide.

The Wright Center for Photovoltaics Innovation and Commercialization, located on Main Campus, is a solar energy-focused research center where physicists are accelerating the growth of the photovoltaic industry by driving advancements in technology, reducing costs and fostering innovation.
