Lauren Sanchez‘s former friend reportedly struck her with a federal lawsuit ahead of her wedding to Jeff Bezos. The Daily Mail shared details from author Alanna Zabel’s copyright infringement and breach of contract suit against Sanchez in the days leading up to the extravagant Venetian ceremony in the Italian city. Zabel, who wrote “Dharma Kitty Goes to Mars,” accused the journalist of stealing her book’s storyline for her New York Times bestseller, “The Fly Who Flew To Space.” Furthermore, she has sought unspecified damages.

The Daily Mail acquired court documents of Lauren Sanchez‘s lawsuit that accused her of copyright infringement days before her and Jeff Bezos’ wedding in Venice. Her apparent feud with Alanna Zabel began after the former’s 40th birthday over a dance-off. Zabel’s suit claimed that Sanchez has harbored “resentment” since then and copied her book idea “scene for scene, plot point by plot point, and page by page” in revenge. The bride-to-be published her children’s book “The Fly Who Flew To Space,” a New York Times bestseller, in 2024.

In the lawsuit, Zabel accused the journalist of trolling her by designing her Blue Origin space suit to resemble the one from her book. The claims revealed they “became close friends” after Zabel began giving her private yoga lessons in 2008. The former friends once shared “intimate secrets,” called each other nicknames, and even worked on a children’s book together. Allegedly, Sanchez signed a non-disclosure agreement, but their friendship hit a rough patch soon.

The lawsuit revealed that Lauren Sanchez and Alanna Zabel’s rift dates back to November 2009. It was the journalist’s birthday party when Zabel’s dancing outshone hers, and she “grew frustrated.” Sanchez then “flicked” away her friend, humiliating her. After cutting ties, the latter tried to reconcile, but was “ghosted.” The suit alleged that the socialite “has harbored resentment toward Zabel since this incident.” She seemingly exacted “revenge” by “copying Zabel’s children’s book” and “infringing Zabel’s copyright.”

Furthermore, the court filings shared a page-by-page comparison of the two books to exhibit “the level of similarity.” The documents revealed that Sanchez was “clearly” aware of her former friend’s book. Zabel also accused Sanchez of taking “the primary subject matter and/or action directly” from her book and using her “connections” with Bezos and other powerful individuals to get her book on the New York Times bestseller list.
