LEGO Group Doubles Sustainable Material Use, Expands Renewable Energy Investments in 2024

LEGO Group has significantly advanced its sustainability goals, sourcing half of its materials from sustainable options in 2024. This marks a notable increase from just 18% in 2023.
Of the sustainably sourced materials, 47% were certified mass balance, equating to roughly 33% renewable sources, while an additional 3% came from segregated sustainable sources.
Efforts to reduce factory emissions also accelerated. LEGO phased out natural gas heating in Denmark, installed geothermal energy systems in Hungary, and expanded solar energy capabilities by 43% across China, Czech Republic, and Denmark.

The company anticipates these investments will deliver tangible reductions in carbon emissions, aligning closely with its science-based environmental targets.
CEO Niels B Christiansen highlighted LEGO’s broader impact:

Our outstanding performance in 2024 helped reach millions of children around the world with joyful learning-through-play experiences that help them develop the skills they will need to thrive.”
