I am writing about “6PPD.” If you “tire burn” or know someone who does, please stop and ask others to stop. All tires, every vehicle, everywhere, has a vile toxin known as “6PPD,” which is, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, toxic to aquatic life.

“Tire burning” leaves tire residue on roadways. After it rains, the tire mark residue flows into culverts and other water systems and aquatic species’ habitats (coho salmon are especially vulnerable).

I’m writing this letter because I’m deeply concerned about the huge amount of “tire burns” I’ve noticed.

Please stop “tire burning.” It is a bad human habit that causes devastating toxicity for aquatic species.
