After reading Steve Nyman’s opinion piece in The Tribune, “If you care about winters in Utah, it’s time to speak up,” I was disheartened to hear about Rocky Mountain Power’s long-term energy proposal in front of Utah’s Public Service Commission. It does not add any meaningful wind or solar projects, but continues to rely on coal and fossil fuels for continued sources of energy.

Nyman encouraged us, the residents of this state, to write to the Public Service Commission immediately to voice opposition to the plan currently under consideration. This proposal is detrimental to the environment, the future of our state, and the well-being of Utah’s children. If you are committed to Utah’s future, I urge you to oppose this plan and ask Rocky Mountain Power to reconsider this path by incorporating sustainable clean energy initiatives and transitioning the state away from coal and fossil fuels.

I firmly stand against the approval of the current plan and have notified the Public Service Commission of my opinion. Please, it took me less than two minutes to write an email to pcs.utah.gov. If you care about Utah’s future, do your part and contact the Public Service Commission before the end of this month. Thank you, Steve Nyman, for bringing this issue to our attention.
