Letter: LNG reveals inconsistent Green energy policies

November 18, 2025

Mahalo to the Star-Advertiser for the recent column, “Governor’s LNG deal raises bevy of concerns.” The Green administration’s climate policy is deeply inconsistent.

On the one hand, it’s suing the fossil fuel industry to pay for climate damages. On the other hand, it’s spouting fossil fuel industry talking points, pursuing climate-wrecking liquefied natural gas (LNG) for Hawaii, and proposing investing billions in LNG infrastructure. LNG is neither clean nor cheap, particularly when considering its health hazards and environmental impacts. Experts warn this would be a serious step backward in Hawaii’s renewable energy transition.

To leave our children and future generations a healthy, habitable world, our leaders must reject greenwashing corporations that care only about their profit margin.

Last year was the hottest year in human history. We must stop polluting the atmosphere with fossil fuels. But that won’t happen with false solutions like LNG.
