Listening session on school environmental health and safety planned for Tri-Cities

January 7, 2025

The public is invited to attend a listening session with state and local health officials on school environmental health and safety in the Tri-Cities.

As part of the School Rules Project aimed at creating updated and comprehensive standards, families and students have the opportunity to discuss ways to shape new standards for school environmental health and safety.

Representatives with the Washington State Board of Health and the Benton-Franklin Health District announced in a release that they plan to introduce topics such as water quality, air quality, and playground safety.

“We are excited to include Tri-Cities families and students in the Listening Session, so we can hear their concerns for school environmental health and safety.” Andrew Kamali, School Rules Project Manager, WA State Board of Health said.

Event highlights include:

  • Share your ideas on school environmental health and safety.

  • Learn about the proposed standards and their potential impacts.

  • Enjoy snacks and $25 gift cards for participants.

  • High school students can earn community service hours.

  • Engage with professionals in environmental science, political science, and law.

The Tri-Cities Listening Session is scheduled for January 13, 6:00 p.m. inside the Pasco High School Library at 1108 N 10th Avenue.
