AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Local students got to get outside and learn about the environment with Georgia DNR.

The kids got to play in dirt, touch fish and other environmental elements during the event at the McDuffie Environmental Education Center.

The Eco-Meet, as DNR calls it, is meant to complement the education kids get in the classroom and get kids thinking about potential career paths.

“We love having the children come out to places like this, and this event is to show them they can apply what they’re in class learning to things in real life,” said Kimberly Clements, lead educator at the McDuffie Environmental Education Center.

The event was also a competition to see which students could do the best at each station. The winning team got to go back to school with a plaque.
