Majority of books in Amazon’s ‘Success’ self-help genre likely written by AI : Study

February 1, 2026

Out of 844 books analyzed by AI detector Originality.ai, 77% were likely written by artificial intelligence. Of the 844 books, 90% had some likely AI-written elements in their product descriptions, author bio or sample texts.

Michael Fraiman, who wrote the study, called this damaging to Amazon’s brand, unfair to consumers, and detrimental to authors who must slog through “AI-generated self-help slop” to sell their books.

AI books were more likely to use certain words in titles and summaries, and had far less reviews than those written by a real person.
