A man who was arrested when police uncovered a cannabis factory inside a semi-detached house in Nottingham has been jailed.

Gezim Celaj was spotted running through the property in Porchester Road, Mapperley, as police forced open the front door on 10 November.

He was held in the living room while searches uncovered 72 cannabis plants in a bedroom and the loft, Nottinghamshire Police said.

Celaj, 21, of Porchester Road, was jailed for six months at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday after pleading guilty to producing a Class B drug.

The force said it was the second time this year the property has been raided and a drugs factory was uncovered.

A closure order, which means no-one will be able to enter the property, will be in place for six months.

PC Emily Hart said: “Grows like these act as a magnet for other criminals who want to steal the crop, bring associated antisocial behaviour and risks from fire because of the dangerous abstracting of electricity we often see.

“For these reasons it was pleasing to be able to place Celaj before the courts and shut the property down so it cannot be used as a drugs den in future.”
