Maryland cops get ‘overwhelming’ response to weed research program

Police in Maryland are no longer accepting applicants after they were overwhelmed with volunteers for a Cannabis Green Lab program.
OCEAN CITY, Md. — Police in Maryland say they’re no longer accepting volunteers for their “Cannabis Green Lab” program after getting an “overwhelming number of participant sign-ups.”
Earlier this week, Ocean City police announced the program in partnership with Montgomery County police.
They said they were looking for 12 to 14 volunteers to smoke cannabis for educational purposes while officers studied them to learn about cannabis impairment.
Police officials say the Green Lab helps officers and participants better understand the impact of cannabis impairment “in a safe, controlled setting.”
Recreational marijuana use is legal in Maryland and D.C., as is retail sale.
Recreational use in Virginia is legal, but marijuana can’t be sold legally.
Marijuana use is still subject to an array of laws throughout the DMV.
