MEDL Releases App for “A Million Ways To Die In The West”

Mobile Photo-Sharing App for New Comedy in Theaters Now

GlobeNewswire

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., June 19, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — MEDL Mobile, Inc. (MEDL) — a pioneer in the creation, development, marketing and monetization of mobile apps — today announced that the company has created a photo-sharing mobile app for A Million Ways To Die In The West, which opened in theaters nationwide and is distributed by Universal Pictures.

Developed in conjunction with MRC, the studio behind the film, the app allows users to snap or choose a photo, then add a virtual cause of death to the photo – such as scorpion, falling piano, or even by a giant block of ice. The photo can then be shared via social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Additionally, the app also allows users to purchase tickets through Fandango or purchase A Million Ways to Die in the West merchandise via the film’s mobile site.

Seth MacFarlane directs, produces, co-writes and stars as a cowardly sheep farmer in the film. A Million Ways to Die in the West also stars Amanda Seyfried, Liam Neeson, Charlize Theron, Neil Patrick Harris, Sarah Silverman and Giovanni Ribisi.

MEDL first worked with MRC in 2012 with the creation of an app for the hit movie Ted. The app, My Wild Night With Ted, generated more than 3.5 million downloads and hundreds of millions of impressions for the film across Facebook and Twitter by allowing users to add the grown up Teddy Bear in various poses to their photographs.

“It’s always fun when we get to work with a team like MRC, MacFarlane and Universal,” said MEDL President and Chief Creative Officer, Dave Swartz. “The client feedback included requests like, ‘can we make the blood splatter gooey’er?'”

“Of course, as fun as it’s been to work on this project, movie marketing with mobile apps has become serious business,” added Swartz. “Images created in the app can be shared across social media, with each share creating awareness and spreading a clickable link back to the app -which in turn drives ticket and merchandise sales.”
