Melania Trump is said to be so reticent that Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka nicknamed her “The Portrait”. But soon the once and future first lady will share her voice with the world.

Ms Trump, 54, will feature in a documentary billed as giving unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to her life as the most enigmatic presence in the court of the president-elect. The former model is an executive producer on the project, which began filming last month after her husband’s election victory.

In the latest sign that tech leaders want to ingratiate themselves with Mr Trump, 78, Jeff Bezos’s Amazon has licensed the film, which will be released in cinemas and be available to stream on television this year.

Brett Ratner, a Hollywood film-maker whose career was derailed by MeToo allegations, is directing the documentary by the New Element Media production company.

“We are excited to share this truly unique story with our millions of customers around the world,” Amazon said.

The promise of full access to Melania Trump will excite observers of the couple who want a closer look at the first lady, even if her inside role suggests the film will not present an objective view.

Throughout Mr Trump’s first term she kept an air of mystery and is said to have delayed moving to Washington until months after her husband’s 2016 victory. This time she plans to divide her time between the capital, her Florida home and New York, where the Trumps’ son Barron, 18, attends university.

“I’m not anxious because this time is different. I have much more experience and much more knowledge,” she told Fox News. “I was in the White House before. When you go in, you know exactly what to expect.”

She is America’s second foreign-born first lady. The first was Louisa Adams, from London, whose husband, John Quincy Adams, was president from 1825 to 1829.

The inclusion of Ratner, 55, as director has astonished Hollywood. He is known for the Rush Hour franchise as well as X-Men: The Last Stand and Tower Heist, but his career has struggled to recover from allegations of misconduct, including by the actress Olivia Munn. He has denied all allegations and was not formally charged.

Last year it was reported that Ratner was seeking to return to the industry by directing a fourth Rush Hour film, which would feature the franchise stars Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan. However, despite the attraction of an established franchise that has made almost $850 million at the box office, there is no sign of the film being made. The Hollywood Reporter said the involvement of Ratner had put off several studios.
