Men jailed after cannabis farm discovered
Nottinghamshire PoliceTwo men have been jailed after police raided a cannabis farm in Nottinghamshire.
Officers used a battering ram to get through the locked backdoor of a property in Allendale Avenue, Aspley, on 1 March.
The pair tried to run upstairs where officers found cannabis and pots across three rooms.
Shamal Xhixha, 23, and Dennis Cani, 25, both of no fixed address, were each jailed for a year after admitting to producing cannabis.
Nottinghamshire PoliceOfficers discovered one room on the second floor with 52 plants growing inside, evidence of a cropped cannabis grow in a second room and pots set up for a cannabis grow in a third room, police said.
Bags of stalks police said were likely taken from the plants in the second room were later found in the loft of the house.
Insp Gordon Fenwick said: “We have long been committed as a neighbourhood policing team in the City West to doing whatever we can to put a stop to drug activity.
“That includes catching people, like Shamal Xhixha and Dennis Cani, who think it’s okay to grow cannabis within our communities.
“Those who cultivate cannabis inside properties bring nothing but trouble to our neighbourhoods and put others in danger too, with this practice bringing a very real fire risk with it.”
Xhixha and Cani, both Albanian nationals, were also given a deportation order under section 32 of the UK Borders Act 2007.
