Meta-backed solar surge adds 385 MW to Louisiana’s grid

January 9, 2026

Independent power producer Treaty Oak Clean Energy has closed financing and kicked off construction on two solar farms that will add 385 megawatts of renewable energy capacity to Louisiana.

The Beekman Solar Project (185 MW) is in Morehouse Parish and the Hollis Creek Solar Project (200 MW) is in Sabine Parish. Combined, Beekman and Hollis Creek will generate enough clean energy to power the equivalent of 80,000 homes.

However, it’s all going to Meta, because both Louisiana solar farms signed long-term power purchase agreements with the tech giant in October. Meta is building a power-hungry AI data center in nearby Richland Parish.

Nextpower manufactured Hollis Creek’s and Beekman’s tracker technology, and First Solar supplied Beekman’s solar panels. Chris Elrod, CEO of Treaty Oak, said, “Our partnership with First Solar is another example of our commitment to build a US-based supply chain and a joint commitment to Louisiana, where they recently inaugurated their fifth US manufacturing facility.”

The projects are expected to generate more than $100 million in state and local tax revenue and create around 300 jobs during peak construction over the course of their life span. Both projects are expected to achieve commercial operations in the first half of 2027.

To put this latest solar installation in Louisiana into perspective, as of Q3 2025, the state had 1,765 megawatts of solar installed, ranking 32nd in the US, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA). It’s expected to climb to 22nd place in the next five years. Louisiana gets just 2.55% of its electricity from solar power.
