Meta says the feedback from creators shaped the tool’s development. With translations now available between English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Hindi, creators can share their reels with audiences across some of the biggest markets for short-form video.
After rolling out AI-powered translations between English and Spanish earlier this year, Meta is now adding Hindi and Portuguese to the mix. The update, announced by Mark Zuckerberg, means millions more creators and viewers can connect through reels on Instagram and Facebook, with support for more languages coming soon.
The idea came from creators who wanted to reach people outside their native languages. Meta’s AI translations don’t just add subtitles—they mimic the creator’s own voice and tone in another language. So, if you’re watching a Hindi food blogger or a Brazilian musician, the translated version still sounds like them.
There’s even an optional lip-syncing feature, which syncs the translated audio to the creator’s mouth movements, making the experience feel more real and less like a dubbed movie.

The best part? It’s free. The feature is available to Facebook creators with at least 1,000 followers and to all public Instagram accounts in countries where Meta AI is active.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri also shared a video on the rollout, calling it part of Meta’s mission to make content “more accessible and community-driven.”
Meta has also built in features that give you full control over your viewing experience. Every AI-translated reel will be clearly labeled with “Translated with Meta AI,” so you’ll always know when you’re watching a translated version.
You can also turn translations on or off anytime from the settings menu—just tap the three dots on a reel, go to “Audio and Language,” and choose whether to watch in the original language or with translation.
