Meta previews AI assistant and desktop version for Edits app
June 15, 2026
New Delhi: Meta has unveiled a series of new and upcoming features for Edits, its video-editing application for creators, including an AI-powered assistant and a desktop version of the platform.
The announcements were made at a creator event in Los Angeles, as the company continues to develop Edits, which launched last year as a competitor to ByteDance’s CapCut.
According to reports, the forthcoming AI assistant will help creators analyse content performance and generate ideas using data from their Instagram accounts. The tool is expected to draw on metrics such as video views and audience retention to identify trends, suggest content concepts and recommend the use of popular audio tracks.
The company is also developing a desktop version of Edits, extending the app beyond its current mobile-only format. The desktop platform is expected to provide creators with more detailed editing controls and support workflows across larger screens, while allowing projects to sync between desktop and mobile devices.
The move places Edits in closer competition with CapCut, which already offers desktop editing capabilities.
Meta also announced several new features that are being rolled out immediately. These include a Beta tab that gives creators access to experimental tools before wider release and allows them to provide feedback on features still under development.
The company has also expanded audience analytics within the app. Creators will now be able to access demographic information and engagement patterns, including the times when their audiences are most active. These metrics will complement existing analytics such as watch time, follower growth and audience drop-off points.
Additional updates include enhanced search capabilities within the Inspiration feed, enabling creators to explore content and templates related to specific trends or topics. Users will also be able to create multiple versions of the same content to compare performance before publishing.
According to media reports, Meta said content produced using Edits records higher save and reshare rates than content created without the app. The company also stated that a significant share of Instagram Reels viewers are exposed to content created through Edits each day.
The AI assistant is currently being tested with attendees of the creator event, while the desktop version is expected to be released at a later date. Other newly announced features are now being made available to users globally.
Edits remains available as a free download on both iOS and Android devices.
