In a major realignment atop one of the biggest tech companies in the world, CEO Mark Zuckerberg says that his company has named Dina Powell McCormick as its new president and vice chairman.
Powell McCormick had been sitting on Meta’s board of directors, but the company says that amid its push into AI, her skills were needed on the executive team: “As we scale, the complexity of what we’re building is changing.”
Powell McCormick was most recently vice chair, president, and head of global client services at the merchant bank BDT & MSD Partners, and previously worked as a senior executive at Goldman Sachs. She was also deputy national security adviser to President Donald Trump during his first term. She is married to Pennsylvania GOP senator Dave McCormick.
“Dina’s experience at the highest levels of global finance, combined with her deep relationships around the world, makes her uniquely suited to help Meta manage this next phase of growth as the company’s President and Vice Chairman,” said Zuckerberg in a statement.
Zuckerberg, of course, has been remaking Meta for the AI era, offering centimillion dollar pay packages to researchers as it pushes to outpace the likes of OpenAI and Google. He has also embraced a more conservative approach to leadership at the company, eliminating DEI policies and adding UFC CEO Dana White to the board.
Meta remains a dominant player in social media, with Instagram and its Reels video platform continuing to grow. Reels now generates more than $50 billion in ad revenue on an annualized basis.
But the hire of Powell McCormick at such a senior level suggests that there are more changes to come, and her background in finance, investment and geopolitics give a hint at what that means for the company.
