Meta Platforms is permanently laying off 331 workers in Washington, according to the Washington Employment Security Department.

The company owns a group of major social media apps, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads, and other holdings.

The positions to be eliminated are within the company’s Reality Labs division, which specializes in virtual reality and augmented reality software. It also produces hardware such as headsets and smart glasses.

The 331 layoffs in Washington are part of 1,500 layoffs within the division nationwide, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The layoff date for Washington employees is March. 20. Of the 331 workers, 97 work remotely. The others work at two locations in Seattle, one in Bellevue, and one in Redmond.
