MLex Summary: Meta Platforms’ use of personal data for direct marketing purposes and profiling related to those purposes should be subject to objections by users opposed to such processing, the UK data privacy regulator said in a position published today. The information commissioner shared his views to assist the UK High Court of Justice with a case brought by a human rights campaigner against Meta in 2022. Activist Tanya O’Carroll argued that her “right to object” to data collection for targeted ads meant Meta should comply with her request for it to stop processing her data under the UK General Data Protection Regulation.
