Metas Quest v77 Update Introduces 3D Instagram Photos
May 24, 2025
Meta has unveiled a suite of new features in its latest Quest v77 update, including 3D photo viewing on Instagram through Meta Quest VR headsets, and a new centralized hub named “Navigator” for app and system management.

Leveraging advanced AI view synthesis algorithms, Meta’s new feature converts standard 2D Instagram photos into immersive 3D visuals when viewed on Quest headsets. This technology adds depth to flat images, creating a more engaging viewing experience without the need for specialized 3D cameras.
The 3D photo feature is currently in a testing phase and is being gradually rolled out to select users. Meta notes that even within the test group, availability may vary, and not all users will see the feature immediately. This initiative builds upon Meta’s previous exploration of 3D photo capabilities, which began with Facebook in 2018.
The v77 update also brings “Navigator,” a new interface designed to centralize access to games, apps, notifications, and system settings on Quest headsets. Accessible via the Meta or Oculus button on the right controller, Navigator allows users to pin up to 10 items for quick access, enhancing the overall user experience by reducing the need to navigate through multiple menus.
Beyond 3D photos and Navigator, the v77 update introduces several other features aimed at improving functionality and user convenience:
- Bluetooth Low Energy Audio Support: Experimental support for Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) audio devices, potentially offering improved battery life and audio quality.
- Movable Window for Multitasking: A new feature allowing users to select a window that can follow them as they move, facilitating multitasking within the VR environment.
- Horizon for PC: A unified PC application that combines Meta Quest Link, casting, and remote desktop functions, streamlining the connection between Quest headsets and PCs.

As these features continue to roll out, users can expect a more interactive and streamlined VR experience, further blurring the lines between digital and physical realities.
