BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (NBC 15) — Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, is expanding its footprint in Alabama with plans to build a massive solar farm on thousands of acres in rural Baldwin County.

The power generated will support a new data center south of Montgomery. However, residents of Stockton, where the solar farm is proposed, are voicing their opposition, saying “Not in my back yard.”

Silicon Ranch, the company behind the project, aims to begin construction by the end of the year, with an estimated completion time of 12- 18 months.
