MGM Resorts powers Las Vegas properties with solar energy

January 23, 2026

MGM Resorts International has announced that it is now powering 100% of the daytime electricity needs of its resorts on the Las Vegas Strip with solar energy.

The group made the announcement as it commenced sourcing energy from the recently-completed Escape Solar and Storage Project in Lincoln County, Nevada. MGM Resorts began receiving 115 MW of solar energy and 400 megawatt-hours (MWh) of battery storage from the facility in December 2025.

This is supported by the company’s own 100 MW Mega Solar Array, with the combined sources more than doubling MGM Resorts’ access to renewable energy, it said.

“With this new project coming online, we are accelerating progress toward our goal of using 100% renewable electricity domestically by 2030,” commented Bill Hornbuckle, CEO and President of MGM Resorts.

“Together with our Mega Solar Array, the new Escape Solar and Storage Project reflects our focus on scalable, impactful clean-energy solutions. It also demonstrates that our industry can operate more sustainably while delivering long-term cost stability, strengthening our business and supporting a more resilient energy future.”

MGM Resorts entered into a 25-year power purchase agreement with Escape Solar LLC in September 2024, to amplify its renewable energy capabilities and extend production to cover its Las Vegas’ properties daytime energy needs.

The company added that it is committed to ‘expanding renewable energy use to lower long-term energy costs and mitigate exposure to energy price volatility’, having invested in several renewable energy projects since 2016.

As well as its Mega Solar Array, which boasts more than 300,000 solar panels, the group also has 26,000 solar panels atop the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, providing 8.3 MW of electricity to that property, a 100-kW solar array on the roof of the T-Mobile Arena, and 3,456 solar panels on the roof of the parking garage at MGM Springfield in Massachusetts.
