Micron, Trump administration announce $200 billion investment in Idaho, other states

Approximately 90,000 jobs are expected to be created with this investment.

BOISE, Idaho — A second memory chip manufacturing facility is coming to Idaho, after the Trump administration partnered with Micron to invest $200 billion into semiconductor manufacturing. 

Through this investment, approximately 90,000 direct and indirect jobs are expected to be created for the projects. Additional investments will be made in Virginia, where Micron plans to expand and modernize its fab facility. Micron’s New York facility will also get part of the investment.

“Micron’s approximately $200 billion broader U.S. expansion vision includes two leading-edge high-volume fabs in Idaho, up to four leading-edge high-volume fabs in New York, the expansion and modernization of its existing manufacturing fab in Virginia, advanced HBM packaging capabilities and R&D to drive American innovation and technology leadership,” a news release from Micron said. 

Several Idaho leaders discussed the announcement, providing statements included below:

U.S. Senator Mike Crapo:

“This expansion is a major milestone for Idaho and for America’s semiconductor independence. Micron’s investment will help secure our national supply chain and drive innovation in the Gem State. I commend President Trump and his Administration for their leadership in advancing pro-growth tax policies that are critical to ensuring the long-term success of domestic semiconductor manufacturing. Their commitment is helping to create the conditions for American innovation and industry to thrive.”  

U.S. Senator Jim Risch:

“Micron’s new fab in Boise is a strategic investment that will strengthen Idaho’s economy and our national security. President Trump’s commitment to revitalizing American manufacturing lays the foundation for long-term technological leadership. Micron’s continued investments in memory semiconductors ensures this critical innovation remains on American soil.” 

Gov. Brad Little:

“Micron’s decision to build a second fab at its Boise headquarters is a significant investment in Idaho’s future. In fulfilling President Trump’s vision of revitalizing U.S. semiconductor manufacturing, Micron’s investment strengthens our state’s position in global technology development and will advance Idaho’s role as a cornerstone of America’s semiconductor leadership.”
