Could The Shawshank Redemption be the next Stephen King story to be reimagined?

Flanagan is Carrie’s screenwriter, executive producer, showrunner, and will direct select episodes. The horror auteur has a lot of experience in the horror genre, with hit TV shows like The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, and The Fall of the House of Usher. He also directed several King adaptations, including 2017’s Gerald’s Game and 2019’s Doctor Sleep, as well as the upcoming The Life of Chuck. He is also set to adapt The Dark Tower, also for Prime Video.

With several adaptations of the novel, Flanagan shared his intention to make his take on the popular story unique. “One of the only questions I had when it was first put on the table was ‘Why?’, and if I couldn’t answer ‘Why do this again?’ for myself, then there was no point in pursuing the project,” Mike Flanagan previously told CinemaBlend about his take on Carrie. “It’s the same muscle. I will say that it’s the same feeling I had when we approached The Turn of the Screw, which had been adapted dozens of times. And it’s like, ‘Okay, how do we do this completely differently?’

Other actresses who took on the role were Sissy Spacek playing Carrie in the 1976 Brian De Palma movie Carrie, Angela Bettis in David Carson’s 2002 film, and Chloë Grace Moretz in the 2013 remake. Carrie is described as a “reimagining of the story of misfit high schooler Carrie White, who has spent her life in seclusion with her domineering mother. After her father’s sudden death, Carrie finds herself contending with the challenges of attending high school, a bullying scandal, and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers.”

Carrie doesn’t have a release date.
