Missouri regulators to begin unannounced cannabis product testing
June 9, 2025
COLUMBIA — Starting July 1, state cannabis regulators will begin conducting inspections at marijuana manufacturers and cultivators for final finished goods across Missouri to ensure product safety and quality.
The definition of a final finished good is a marijuana or cannabis product that is no longer changing in form. The finished goods are then put in packaged goods and are sold to dispensaries for consumption.
If the dispensary is producing a final finished good, it is subject to unannounced visits to ensure quality and safety. The division said it is starting first with the manufacturers and cultivators.
Ryan Bernard, the division’s testing and research unit manager, said if it’s a deli-style pre-roll dispensary, at that point they are producing the final finished product.
“A deli-style is kind of like walking up to a convenience store and picking out a primary meat and these two sides,” Bernard said.
The state reference laboratory is accredited for Aspergillus and E. coli, which will be examined in the products during the inspection.
“Hopefully this is just a reassurance and again another layer of compliance,” Bernard said.
Bernard said he does not expect to find anything outrageous. All products undergo intense testing before they enter the Missouri market. The inspection serves merely as an additional verification. He’s said he is fully confident that Missouri’s licenses are following protocol.
The dispensaries will be part of the same random pull that the manufacturers and cultivators are part of.
This comes two years after the legalization of recreational marijuana in the state.
