Police who found a crop of 9,000 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of £9.5m have described it as a “central supply factory” to other cannabis farms in Birmingham.

The drugs were found at a property on Grove Lane in Lozells.

The seizure on 19 November is believed to be one of the biggest ever within the West Midlands force, with officers saying a major supply network for the region had been disrupted.

Five men arrested following the discovery of the “huge haul” have been released on bail as investigations continue.

The large amount of propogators, containing many hundreds of baby plants for distribution, showed the property was clearly being used to supply other cannabis farms, the force stated.

The five men arrested, aged between 21 and 37, are suspected of offences including cannabis cultivation, burglary and possessing a Class B drug.

Sgt Harj Cheema said the seizure had been “an absolutely fantastic outcome” for the force.

The officer added: “A major supply network has been disrupted which would have supplied cannabis across the West Midlands area.”
