Morocco’s OCP Group brings three new solar plants online, adding 202 MWp of capacity
December 24, 2025
Morocco has become the latest African nation to develop its renewable energy infrastructure through several new solar plants that are being developed by the OCP Group. Morocco, along with the vast majority of nations across the global energy market, has been developing new and exciting renewable energy projects as the nation aims to meet its clean energy and emission targets by the end of the decade. The OCP Group is aiming to lead the nation into a new era of clean energy generation amid a constantly shifting energy market.
Morocco’s OCP Group is developing three new solar plants to advance renewable energy in Africa
Morocco, along with the vast majority of the world, has been developing new renewable energy frameworks that will bolster the nation’s clean energy output capacity over the coming years. For far too long, we have collectively relied on the energy from the oil and gas sectors, but Morocco is aiming to end that generational reliance and is developing a welcoming environment for the renewable energy market.
The OCP Group has reached a milestone as it has launched three new solar projects that will combine to add approximately 202 MWp to Morocco’s national energy grid. The three solar projects have been developed by OCP alongside the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN). OCP notes that these new solar projects form part of a broader initiative to increase the company’s renewable energy output in Morocco.
The OCP Group is aiming to lead Morocco into a new era of clean energy production
The OCP Group has expressed its intentions to power all of its operations with renewable energy by 2027, and is targeting a net-zero status by 2040, if all goes according to plan. The projects were launched through OCP’s subsidiary, OCP Green Energy, and mark the future of the company through its new renewable energy framework.
OCP has received support from several large financial institutions
The OCP Group has been appreciative of the substantial support from the International Finance Corporation, as well as the support provided by Germany’s KfW Development Bank. The three new solar projects are Benguerir (67 MWp), Youssoufia (30 MWp), and Khouribga (105 MWp). Together, these projects represent a total investment of around 1.8 billion Moroccan dirhams (around €165 million).
Notably, these three projects reflect the growing sentiment of clean energy powering the mining and industrial ambitions of the OCP Group and will lay the foundation for future renewable energy projects in a part of the world that has been starved of attention and investments in clean energy.
OCP is laying the groundwork for its clean energy plan
As other African nations develop their own renewable energy infrastructure, such as the tiny Kingdom of Eswatini, Morocco has outlined its plans to take advantage of the vast amount of sunshine in the nation and is enabling OCP to reach its goal of 100% clean energy, powering its operations over the coming years. Whether or not the rest of Africa follows suit is yet to be determined, as some nations have languished in their adoption of solar power projects.
OCP plans to invest billions in clean energy production over the coming years
The company has noted that the three new solar projects form part of its clean energy production plan, which calls for OCP to invest heavily in renewable energy production over the coming years. Astonishing advancements in solar power technology reflect the confidence the international market has in the renewable energy sector, playing a vital role in the advancement of clean energy generation around the world. OCP plans to invest upwards of $13 billion in the coming years to develop its renewable energy portfolio in Morocco.
