In a significant technology development for India, OpenAI and Meta Platforms have reportedly held separate discussions with Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries regarding potential partnerships to enhance their artificial intelligence (AI) presence in India. According to a report by The Information as quoted by news agency Reuters, the discussions include a possible collaboration between OpenAI and Reliance Jio to distribute ChatGPT in the country. The report says that the talks signal a strategic push by global AI leaders aimed at tapping into India’s vast digital ecosystem, using Reliance Jio’s extensive network. In a collaborating that can help everyone, they are working together for a future AI revolution in India. Throigh the possible partnership, OpenAI, in partnership with Jio could significantly boost ChatGPT’s accessibility. Meanwhile, Meta’s discussions with Reliance might be leading to implementation of broader AI ambitions.

“Reliance has discussed selling OpenAI’s models to its enterprise customers through an application programming interface or API, The Information report added, saying that the Mukesh Ambani-led conglomerate also discussed hosting and running OpenAI models locally, so the data of local customers can be kept within India”, the report carried by news agency Reuters said.
“In particular, Reliance has discussed running the Meta and OpenAI models in a three-gigawatt data center that the company is planning to build, which it has said is the largest data center in the world, located in the city of Jamnagar in Gujarat,” the report added.
Meta to expand India operations, hire more for engineering and AI roles
In another significant development, Global technology giant Meta is expanding its presence in India and would hire engineers and product specialists for artificial intelligence (AI) roles. Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has announced a new office in Bengaluru, as per a report by news agency IANS.
With this move, Meta is following the path of other major tech giants like Microsoft, Google, and Amazon, which have already established strong engineering and product teams in Bengaluru and across India.
