NASCAR Prime Video ratings revealed after Mexico City weekend

June 18, 2025

This past Sunday’s Viva Mexico 250 at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City got 2.10 million viewers on Prime Video, per Adam Stern of Sports Business Journal. That included the youngest audience for any race on the streaming platform and the lowest audience for any Cup Series race since 2017.

Mexico City was the site of the first Cup points race outside the United States since 1958. All things considered, the weekend was largely viewed as a success. Yes, there were some travel issues. NASCAR admitted they can do some things better on that front if/when they return to Mexico City.

Daniel Suárez, born in Monterrey, Mexico, took the checkered flag in Saturday’s Xfinity Series race. New Zealand native Shane van Gisbergen followed that up with a dominant victory of his own in Sunday’s Cup race.

Van Gisbergen, sitting 30th in the points standings, is locked into the 16-driver postseason field. Despite his inexperience on ovals, it was always likely he could win on a road course and become playoff bound. It’s why Trackhouse Racing owner Justin Marks has him in the No. 88 car.

Other than Ty Gibbs, nobody had an answer for van Gisbergen. Gibbs might have been able to give him a run had he not lost valuable track position in Stage 3. Van Gisbergen cruised to a 16.567 margin of victory over Christopher Bell. It was the second largest margin of victory in the last 25 years. Van Gisbergen was that good.

“What a week. I’ve really enjoyed myself. I felt pretty rubbish today. Our car was amazing. I think the 54 [Gibbs] was close,” he said after the race. “That list stint, man, what a pleasure just ripping lap after lap. Watching them get smaller in the mirror. Unreal. I’ve been privileged to have some great [cars] in my time, but when I go slow, I just lose concentration, so I was trying to stay in a rhythm and a routine, and Josh and Stephen are doing such a great job keeping me calm and focused, and man, that was epic.”
