LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – The Nebraska Medical Cannabis Commission held its first meeting in Lincoln Monday afternoon, with the main goal of laying down the framework for roles.
One of the first items on the agenda included commissioners – Dr. Monica Oldenburg, Lorelle Mueting, Bruce Bailey and Kim Lowe – electing Dr. Oldenburg as the chairperson of the commission.
One vacancy with the liquor commission still has yet to be filled by Gov. Jim Pillen to represent Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District.
Before discussing how meetings will move forward, in order to meet the July deadline of setting rules for medical marijuana growing and selling in Nebraska, the commission told 10/11 News its sights are set on hitting the ground running with setting down rules.
However, the campaign manager of Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana, Crista Eggers, said the commission has to be very careful as they get going.
“And so it will be the goal that between now and the first of July that we certainly can come through with something that we can show the public and get public feedback,” Bailey said.
“But along with that comes making sure that those regulations that they put into place do reflect what the voters did pass. And so as always, we will be there. To continue to advocate to have conversations,” Eggers said.
The next meeting to go over the rollout of medical marijuana regulations is slated for June 26.
