Netflix chasing ‘MrBeast moment’ as streamers woo web creators, WSJ says

Streamers including Netflix (NFLX), NBCUniversal’s (CMCSA) Peacock and Amazon.com (AMZN) are wooing web creators-and their legions of fans-for new series or spinoffs, courting a category of performers whose fare rarely used to make the jump to subscription streaming services. The change is a sign of Google (GOOGL)-owned YouTube’s tightening grip on America’s TV time, The Wall Street Journal’s Jessica Toonkel reports. Interest shifted into overdrive after the knockout success of MrBeast’s “Beast Games,” which premiered on Amazon Prime Video in December. In recent months, Netflix has had discussions about a new series with Dude Perfect, a sports-focused group of creators with a following of tens of millions, said people familiar with those discussions. And Netflix has talked to the YouTuber and former NASA engineer Mark Rober about a new show, said one of those people.
