Netflix’s social experiment show ‘exactly the same as The Traitors’ with twist

March 24, 2025

There’s a new show on its way and this one comes with a twinge of mystery.

Netflix‘s Million Dollar Secret features twelve players who are forced to turn against each other as they hunt down a million dollar prize. One player is tapped to receive the sum of money while the other individuals attempt to sniff out who has the funds. If they’re able to eliminate the new millionaire, then the other players can get the cash prize for themselves.

The premise of the show sounds like a bit of a repeat, though, according to fans who compared it to The Traitors. “This is exactly the same as traitors,” one said on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Cool, we’ve been watching a series called ‘The Traitors’ and this sounds a bit similar. We’ll probably check this out,” another said on Reddit.

Sadly, fans aren’t trusting the major streamer with this style of show. Another said, “Like everything else that Netflix touches, they will f— it up.”

The show will be hosted by English actor and comedian Peter Serafinowicz. He’s known for his roles in Guardians of the Galaxy, The Bubble, and Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget.

The Traitors is a Peacock reality show based on the equivalent in the United Kingdom. The show taps a group of celebrities, who come from a variety of fields, to compete against each other. Among them rests a few traitors who are tasked with tanking the competition secretly while the others band together in an effort to eliminate their enemies. Of course, this bond doesn’t last as suspicions tears alliances apart.

The show’s key difference might draw some fans into the new Netflix series. It seems some viewers are fed up with rehashing celebrity figures. “As long as the contestants aren’t celebrities or reality-TV ‘celebrities’, then I’m in…” wrote a fan on Reddit.

Reality television has been scrambling as of late to keep viewers engaged, especially Netflix who also made another bid to rip-off an Amazon Prime series. In what seemed to be a response to Amazon’s Beast Games, which was in partnership with YouTuber MrBeast, they threw together a show called The Golden Ticket which is a Willy Wonka-themed competition series.

Of course, like much of television, the style of show dates back to Netflix’s own Squid Games, too, so it’s hard to say who is really driving the innovation behind the television genre right now.
