Nevada cannabis sales drop 9% as illegal market grows

February 6, 2026

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Legal cannabis sales in Nevada dropped almost 9% in 2025, according to newly released numbers from the Cannabis Compliance Board.

The CCB adds that the decline in dispensary and lounge sales means less money for schools, as state law requires 10% of taxable cannabis sales to go to education. The State Education Fund received $95 million in 2025, a decline of $12 million from the previous year.

Revenue has been on a general decline since the pandemic as more states legalize recreational and medicinal marijuana. However, the Nevada Cannabis Association points to a major threat to revenue: unlicensed sales.

A study by the Cannabis Compliance Board shows up to a third of all marijuana sales in Nevada are illegal, cutting into tax revenue from licensed dispensaries and lounges.

The CCB encourages anyone wondering if they are buying from a legal seller to visit the full list of active Nevada Cannabis Licensees and operators on its website.
