SOUTH HERO, Vt. (WCAX) – A farm-to-consumer cannabis company is growing in the Champlain Islands.

Lake Effect Vermont just opened at its new location on Route 2 in South Hero.

The market features products from various Vermont farmers, and it’s filling prime real estate that has sat empty for years.

“We decided to make an offer, build up this building, and 77 days from closing on this building to opening up this shop,” said the shop’s Zack Lighterman. “So, we don’t carry our own stuff only. We carry stuff from farmers across the island and Vermont.”

The company now employs 20 people.
