New ‘Superman’ Trailer Is Heavy on Both Lex Luthor and Visual Effects Shots
June 11, 2025
Oh, so that’s why the previous Superman trailers were all so similar. Tickets for the highly anticipated DC Studios film are now on sale and to celebrate, Warner Bros. has released its most revealing trailer to date. It’s filled with lots of evil Lex Luthor and even more wild visual effects shots, that showcase action, creations, and more. Presumably, these are all shots that were being finished in the previous months, but are now ready for your eyeballs.
Written and directed by James Gunn, Superman opens July 11. It stars David Corenswet as Superman and Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. You see them all in this trailer, along with a heavy dose of the Justice Gang, comprised of Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi), and Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced) Oh and guess what? There is shockingly little Krypto.
Our first takeaway here is all the Lex stuff, which is fantastic. Lex was clearly part of the previous trailers, but here we see how his jealousy and hatred of Superman start to manifest. He threatens to kill Lois? Superman’s parents? We wonder how deep he gets into who Superman really is throughout this movie.
Then, of course, there are the visual effects shots. Superman flying, Superman fighting, Superman shooting lasers from his eyes as he’s attacked by robots. When it comes to these, I’m of two minds. One is, in a trailer like this, they look a little bit wonky. They just do. But I also feel that we’re seeing them out of context. It’s not like the whole movie looks like that. So, a handful of weird, ambitious shots to really push the boundaries of the character could work when viewed along with everything else. Plus, and most importantly, they could be stick figures and we wouldn’t care as long as there’s an emotional connection to the characters and the story. So, hopefully, that resonates more than anything else.
We’ll find out soon as Superman is coming to theaters in one month and tickets are on sale now. Are you buying?
