Nicole Kidman suits up as a chief medical examiner in the first look at Amazon Prime Video’s “Scarpetta,” the upcoming series adaptation of the Patricia Cornwell novels.

The crime thriller series follows the highly skilled Dr. Kay Scarpetta, who is determined to unmask a serial killer and prove that her career-making case from 28 years prior isn’t also her undoing.

“Scarpetta” also stars Jamie Lee Curtis as Scarpetta’s sister, Dorothy Farinelli, Bobby Cannavale stars as Detective Pete Marino, Simon Baker as FBI profiler Benton Wesley and Ariana DeBose as Scarpetta’s tech-savvy niece Lucy Watson. The show’s dual timeline is completed by Rosy McEwen, Amanda Righetti, Jake Cannavale (Bobby’s son) and Hunter Parrish, who play the younger versions of Kidman, Curtis, Cannavale and Baker’s characters, respectively.

The series follows Scarpetta’s journey from serving as chief medical examiner in the 1990s to present day, when she returns to her hometown to assume her former position and investigate a grisly murder. Per the logline, “As Scarpetta pursues justice, she must navigate complicated relationships, including the fraught dynamic with her sister Dorothy Farinelli, confront long-held professional and personal grudges, and face secrets that threaten to unravel everything she’s built.”

Liz Sarnoff serves as showrunner and executive produces via Sarnoff TV alongside Kidman and Per Saari through Blossom Films; Curtis through Comet Pictures; Cornwell through P & S Projects; and Jason Blum, Jeremy Gold, Chris Dickie and Chris McCumber through Blumhouse Television. David Gordon Green directed five episodes and also serves as EP alongside Amy Sayres. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Blumhouse Television in association with Blossom Films, Comet Pictures, and P&S Projects.
