HOLLAND, Mich. — The red carpet was rolled out in Holland on Monday for an exclusive pre-release screening of upcoming thriller “Holland,” starring Nicole Kidman.

The film, which was partially shot on location in West Michigan, follows the story of a teacher and homemaker who, alongside a friendly colleague, uncovers that some things in their lives are not what they seem.

Monday’s event not only included in a one-night-only pre-release screening of the film, but featured a Q&A session with the film’s director, Mimi Cave, offering attendees a unique insight into the making of the movie.

For Cave, the screening at Knickerbocker Theater was a “full circle moment” after she “lived and breathed Holland” over the last three years.

“It’s just a nice feeling to be done with the film and sharing it with the town,” Cave said. “We learned so much we researched so much, We went to tulip Time, we watched old footage we talked to people in town about the history the culture and create a relationship with the town.”

For production designer JC Molina, the research done on “Dutch American life” for the movie was “pretty extensive.”

“In the beginning it was a lot of talking to families,” Molina said. “When we flew in, we talked with a specific family they set us up with and they showed us different houses for me. It was a lot of architecture, understanding the materials like wood grains, it was understanding what the essence of Dutch American life is in Holland Michigan.”

Molina continued, “And then we went to the research phase which was talking to archivists here in Holland on getting videos and photos of Dutch Life Dutch American Life here, and then there it was pulling references from other Dutch towns in the US, so it’s pretty extensive. I’m very obsessed with research.”

“Holland” is set to release globally on Amazon’s Prime Video on Thursday.
