Nordex lands 246 MW in new onshore wind turbine contracts across Spain
January 17, 2026
Spain has become the latest nation to turn to the undisputed king of the wind turbine manufacturing sector, the Nordex Group, to supply 246 MW in new onshore wind turbine contracts across the European nation. The new year brings with it a wave of potential for the renewable energy market as nations aim to meet integrated renewable energy targets as well as drastically reduce emissions from the energy sector.
The Nordex Group secured the latest order earmarked for the Spanish wind sector
Towards the end of last year, the Nordex Group received the latest order for wind turbines earmarked for several new wind farms in Spain. The nation is among the top renewable energy producers in Europe, with renewable energy making up more than half of the energy produced in Spain in 2024.
Nordex has noted that a total of 38 wind turbines of various types will be installed in several provinces around Spain. The rapid transformation of the Spanish energy market has placed the nation at the forefront of embracing and adopting renewable energy.
Europe has seen a rapid acceleration of the energy transition, as the vast majority of nations aim to develop their renewable energy infrastructure over the coming years to alleviate concerns over emissions from the global energy sector.
“The EU’s dependence on fossil fuel imports must be replaced with home-grown renewable energies, for the benefit of citizens and businesses, and of the environment.” – European Commission
Spain is welcoming the renewable energy market with open arms and a blank checkbook
Nordex has noted that the combined 38 turbines’ output capacity for clean energy totals an astonishing 246 MW, and that the Spanish provinces of Teruel, Navarra, Burgos, and León will play host to several new wind energy projects that feature the latest state-of-the-art turbines from the company.
The first order came from the projects in Teruel, which will make use of Nordex’s N163/6.X wind turbines alongside the N175/6.X model. The notable expansion of the Spanish wind market has raised questions for the rest of Europe, as the need to integrate more renewable energy comes into focus.
The next province in Spain that will feature Nordex wind turbines is Navarra, which will see several of Nordex’s latest wind turbines, namely, the N163/6.X, N133/4800, and N163/5.X turbines. The wind project in Burgos will see Nordex’s N149/5.X turbines installed.
A major European renewable energy company has also placed an order with Nordex
While the project developers for the first wind projects in Spain have not been disclosed by Nordex, Nadara, one of the continent’s largest independent power producers, has placed an order with Nordex to supply the wind turbines for the Castillo 1 in the province of León. Nearby Italy is targeting the completion of the Palino and Venusia projects this year.
“We are proud to welcome Nadara as a new partner in Spain and to support their entry into the Spanish wind energy market. This project highlights the strength of our Delta4000 platform and our ability to deliver tailored solutions for diverse wind conditions. Through all new projects the Nordex Group further consolidates its presence within the Spanish market, where in 2025 it again maintains a leading position regarding new orders.” – Francisco Cejudo, Director Sales Spain at the Nordex Group
Nordex is steadily building its European portfolio
The company has recently seen RPC placing an order for 553 MW of onshore wind turbines across four wind projects in Sweden, building Nordex’s European portfolio. Each of the substantial turbine orders in Spain comes with an extensive 20-year service agreement from Nordex. The global energy transition away from fossil fuel-based energy production is reaching a tipping point this year.
