North Star Elementary recognized for commitment to sustainability, environmental education

A local elementary school is proudly displaying a green flag.
The National Wildlife Federation recently recognized North Star Elementary in the Red Clay Consolidated School District for its commitment to environmental education, sustainability and student leadership. The Eco-Schools U.S. Green Flag was presented during a recent celebration
North Star maintains vegetable and pollinator gardens. The school’s accomplishments included 72 hours spent learning outdoors, creation of habitat space, planting of flowers, grasses and shrubs, and 120 actions related to conservation.
“We are incredibly proud of North Star’s commitment to sustainability, hands-on learning, and youth leadership,” Red Clay Consolidated School District Superintendent Dr. Dorrell Green said. “This award is a testament to the power of community partnerships and the passion of our students and staff.”
