BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WBNG) — On Tuesday, Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham posted on X that enforcement officials from the New York State Office of Cannabis Management conducted an inspection at Maryam’s Taste of Halal.
Maryam’s Taste of Halal is a local market on 69 Court St. in Binghamton. On Tuesday, the office of cannabis management seized cannabis products and issued a notice of violation to the local market.
According to Mayor Kraham, the business is not a licensed cannabis retailer. The mayor added that recently, multiple underage individuals fell ill after eating cannabis products that Maryam sold, which resulted in hospital visits.
“Unlicensed stores selling illegal and untested cannabis products are dangerous,” exclaimed Mayor Kraham on X. “I urge Binghamton residents to buy only from NYS-regulated cannabis dispensaries. Any other business selling cannabis is putting your health at risk and probably ripping you off.”
Mayor Kraham also reminded residents that Binghamton has only two licensed cannabis stores, Breathe and Cotton Mouth Dispensary. He is urging the City Council to vote on his common sense law from last October to crack down on illegal shops and enhance local enforcement.
