Nu Chi Omega Chapter hosts Elegant Tea & Flower Show promoting environmental awareness

The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Nu Chi Omega Chapter, hosted its 2nd Annual Tea & Flower Show Presentation on May 16 at noon at the STEM Center for Innovation Atrium, Henderson, offering an elegant afternoon filled with fellowship, education, entertainment, and community engagement.

Presented by the chapter’s Enhance Our Environment Committee, the event featured the theme, “The Big Conversation: A Spring Revival.” Guests entered a beautifully decorated venue adorned in the sorority’s signature pink and green colors, accented with linen tablecloths, decorative teapots, and an array of vibrant plants and floral arrangements. Attendees arrived dressed in elegant spring attire, complete with gloves and fascinators, adding to the festive atmosphere.

The afternoon began with welcoming remarks from Nu Chi Omega Chapter President Deidre Wilson, followed by an inspirational invocation by Chapter Chaplain Toni Rankin-Green. Cheryl Richardson shared a moving poem before guests enjoyed musical entertainment presented by the Nu Rose Chorale under the direction of Dianne Evans.

Shannon Keith served as narrator for the afternoon’s floral presentations. The first showcase, “Joy, Joy, Joy,” featured exquisite floral arrangements cultivated from the personal gardens of chapter members. “Perennials Reaffirmed” highlighted a variety of indoor and outdoor plants, with presenters sharing information about plant origins, uses, and proper care. Guests were also invited to take home plant samples. The final presentation, “Seasonal Inspirations,” displayed creative container gardens suitable for year-round enjoyment.

The program concluded with special gifts for guests and closing remarks from Vivian Bullock, chairman of the Enhance Our Environment Committee. Attendees then enjoyed heavy hors d’oeuvres, assorted teas, photo opportunities, and fellowship.

Enhance Our Environment is one of the international program initiatives of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® for 2022–2026 under the leadership of International President and CEO Danette Anthony Reed. The initiative focuses on environmental stewardship through tree planting, community gardens, recycling, waste reduction, and sustainable practices.

Locally, the Nu Chi Omega Chapter has made a meaningful impact throughout Granville and Vance counties through beautification and environmental projects. Committee members have planted trees at LB Yancey Elementary School and completed beautification projects at Granville Street Park in Oxford, Mary Davis Royster Funeral Home, Perry Memorial Library, Serenity Farms, Vance County Senior Center, Baskerville Law Offices, and Fogg’s Exxon. The committee has also sponsored workshops promoting eco-friendly practices and sustainable agriculture.
